Double a donation to Manchester Cares

How would you like to make double the difference to your older neighbours this winter?

Manchester Cares is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge. Between 3rd – 10th December, any donation to the charity will be doubled.

That means your £10 becomes £20, £20 becomes £40 – you'll be making twice the difference at a time when our neighbours need it the most.

After all, by supporting us during the Big Give Christmas Challenge, you'll help fund our community-led Winter Wellbeing project, which keeps neighbours warm, well and connected during the challenging months.

Norman and David

It's through last year's Winter Wellbeing project that we met Norman (69), who was referred for Winter Wellbeing support by Greater Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

When we first met Norman, he was facing health and housing issues and he didn’t have close friends or family to rely on for support.

As well as supporting Norman through a referral to an energy saving expert and with a fuel grant, we also introduced him to David (36). David wanted to learn from someone with life experiences and to be a positive presence in somebody else’s life.

David and Norman now meet every week for a coffee and, most importantly, to discuss Manchester United, their shared passion. They even managed to get along to a game at Old Trafford – which you can read all about here.

David said: “We have had lots of lovely visits, obviously football plays a big part of our visit, but we chat about lots of other things too."

And of David, Norman said: “We have a laugh and a joke; David really cheers me up. I really appreciate and value the time David spends with me, it’s really great and I’m so thankful.”
