Make your new year’s resolution count

January can be a tricky month. We wander, bleary eyed, back to work, still full of mince pies and unsure of exactly what day it is. As if that isn’t bad enough, there’s a lot of pressure to better ourselves for the new year; drink less, exercise more, write that novel you’ve been you’ve been sitting on for the last six years. But you don’t have to go it alone! . Here are some ways that you can make a big difference with #TeamManchesterCares in 2020.

Take on a challenge

Cristina And Arthur

Getting fit might be the most common new year's resolution and the most often broken. It’s hard to keep up running, swimming or working out without a tangible goal.

Taking on a challenge for Manchester Cares is a great way to motivate yourself to improve your fitness. We’re always looking for volunteers to take on physical challenges to raise money for Manchester Cares, from 10k’s to marathons, from hikes to cycle rides. There are challenges for all kinds of physical activity and all levels of fitness. Click here to find a challenge that’s right for you or get in touch with Rob for more information.

Looking to try new things in 2020? Ever wanted to try dancing, or painting, or baking? There are opportunities to turn your hand at all of these skills and more at our Social Clubs.

Social Clubs are an opportunity for older and younger neighbours to socialise together
and we run a wide variety every month, from documentary club to creative writing club. Click here to find out more about Social Clubs or here to sign up to our next volunteer induction.

Share your skills

Calling all woodworkers, podcasters, actors and brewers! If you have a passion or skill, share it with others this year by running a Social Club! We’re always looking for new ideas and people who can lead a fun activity. If you have something that you could share with the community, get in touch with our Social Clubs coordinator Heather.

Make new friends

Audrey And Sinnead

Our Love Your Neighbour programme is perfect for those looking to make new connections in 2020. We match an older neighbour to a younger neighbour to create lasting friendships like Audrey and Sinead’s

If you can spare some time once a week, we’d love to hear from you, particularly if you’re able to visit an older neighbour in Wythenshawe or Longsight. Click here to find out more about Love Your Neighbour or contact our Love Your Neighbour Coordinator Vicky.

Donate

One of the simplest ways that you could make a big difference in 2020 is to set up a regular donation to Manchester Cares.

£5 per month could fund brews and biscuits for one of our social clubs, and £10 per month could help us buy warm items for our Winter Wellbeing project, which helps to keep older neighbours healthy, active and connected during the coldest and most isolating months of the year. It’s only through the generous support of our fab donors that we’ll be able to reach more older neighbours, set up new Social Clubs and make 2020 our most impactful year yet.
