Last Sunday, over 60 friends old and new came together to celebrate Manchester Cares 2nd birthday at St Georges Community Centre in Collyhurst.
Joyce was on the dance floor in record time, Trish was creating beautiful pomp pom party hats, DJ Ged was on the decks providing all the party bangers, and Charles, who has now attending a whopping 100 social clubs with us, wrote and performed a beautiful poem.
Charles said “needless to say, I love everything Manchester Cares does. I would be lost with out them” Here’s a snippet of his poem:
“Thank you Manchester Cares
From the bottom of my heart
Have a lovely second birthday
As you certainly play your part
In bringing joy and happiness
To people young and old
I for one believe in you
You’re all good as gold"
Thank you Charles!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 2 whole years since setting up. Since then, with the help of hundreds of neighbours, volunteers, community partners, fundraisers and supporters, we’ve held 246 Social Clubs, and younger and older neighbours have spent 1200 hours together as part of Love Your Neighbour programme.
Huge thanks goes to Madeline Penfold for taking these beautiful photos, Dot and the team at St Georges Community Centre for hosting us, The Mustard Tree for loaning us chairs for the day, The Royal Exchange Theatre for donating tickets for our tombola, Art with Heart for screening their brilliant film created with older neighbours, Trish for making party hats, and everyone who came along and celebrated with us on the day!
