There's so much to do in Manchester and lots to get involved in with Manchester Cares, but it’s not always easy to know what's out there and how to get involved. Our Outreach programme helps to remove barriers and anxieties that prevent people from finding opportunities for connection.
We regularly visit housing schemes and run Social Clubs with residents, to give them a flavour of what we’re all about.
Recently, we ran a Cocktail Making Social Club in partnership with Arawak Walton. Younger Neighbours Ciara (25, pictured, left) and Rob specially designed a Manchester themed Vimto Bramble Cocktail, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options so everyone could enjoy a taste of Manchester’s favourite purple drink.
Residents came up with their own Manchester themed cocktail names. “Rainy City” and “Shipcanal No 5” were some of the brilliant suggestions, the latter from Pat (83, pictured below, right) - Manchester mixologists take note!
Older neighbours told us how much they enjoyed the opportunity to try something different. Tony (77) told us he enjoyed the day because “I haven’t tried cocktails before, they weren't as common in bars when I was younger".
The fun continued beyond the day too, as several residents are now signed up to our monthly postal programme. Zak (64) has already enjoyed two Social Clubs. He enjoyed chatting with Kane at Tech Club (pictured, below left), and sharing his track Sugar, Sugar, by The Archies at Desert Island Disc Club. Check out the latest playlist including Zak’s track on the Manchester Cares Spotify.
