Tell us about you and the challenge you’re doing.
My name is Helena, I’m 26 years old and I moved to Manchester four and a half years ago for a new job. I work for Manchester Camerata, a chamber orchestra based in the city, and help to organise their community programme.
I've been a part of Manchester Cares for nearly a year – I love it. There’re so many different activities to try and lots of really interesting people to meet!
This year, I decided to run the Manchester Marathon to raise money for Manchester Cares. All 26.2 miles.... Eek!
What made you decide to fundraise for Manchester Cares?
I like setting myself a new challenge, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to train for a good cause! I help run a cooking club for Manchester Cares, so I get a glimpse at all of the hard work and preparation that goes in to organising these activities, but the fun, laughter and joy that they bring to everyone who attends!
What did you most enjoy about this challenge?
The atmosphere on race day was the best part of this challenge – running with so many people, all aiming for the same thing and the crowds cheering to keep you going! Great to hear someone in the crowd clap and cheer me on with 'Manchester really does care! Keep going!'
Helena has raised over £900 to help support Social Clubs and new friendships through our Love Your Neighbour programme.
