Tell us a little bit about you and the event you’re organising.
I'm Sharlene. I’m 28, born and bred in Doncaster. I’m a Finance Analyst at Prettylittlething.
In my spare time I enjoy dancing and am currently learning how to knit. I'm part of a group of volunteers organising a fundraiser dinner on the Tuesday 28th August.
I’m Annabelle and I’m 26. I like to cycle and get out in the countryside whenever I can.
I work for a charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers to find volunteering. I’m also helping to organise the fundraising meal, which we're holding at The Old Abbey Taphouse in Manchester Science Park.
What inspired you to fundraise for Manchester Cares?
S: I really admire what Manchester Cares stands for. People of all ages suffer from loneliness and isolation and I've seen how the social events and Love Your Neighbour programme create a sense of community and belonging that we don't often see these days. So I just want to help in any way I can.
A: I enjoy volunteering with Manchester Cares I’m building lasting friendships and have had a great laugh at the socials, writing a song with the Manchester Camerata and learning new music at the Desert Island discs night. I want to raise some money so these events can continue long into the future.
How are you preparing for your challenge?
S: I'm brushing up on my Nigella cooking skills!
A: I’m asking my friends for their best brownie recipes.
What are you most looking forward to and most dreading about taking on this challenge?
S: I'm most looking forward to seeing everyone have a fun evening and raising awareness of Manchester Cares.
A: Similar to Sharlene having a relaxing evening and collecting some donations.
