Prudence (69) and Laura (29), were introduced through our Love Your Neighbour programme, which connects younger and older neighbours to share company, conversation and laughter. A few months into their friendship we caught up with them to see what makes it so special.
Prudence: “Me and Laura have lots of fun, we even went to a social club together the other week. But my favourite thing about Laura visiting is chatting to her, we talk about different things from food to plants to our travels. I have even met her mum, which was special.
I really look forward to Laura’s visits, sometimes she even surprises me on her lunch breaks too and that is truly special and makes my day. I love to see Laura!
Our friendship makes me happy, I feel like I can tell her anything, we laugh and she uplifts me.
I would really encourage everyone to join Love Your Neighbour, it is a really good thing, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!”
Laura: “I love visiting Prudence, I often arrive feeling tired and stressed from work but leave feeling so much better, with a huge grin on my face and feeling relaxed.
We have lovely chats about travelling, nature, the outdoors and food and we have realised that we have loads in common! From holidays in Cuba to our love for plants and trees to loving the sound of rain on rooftops.
I never expected that Prudence and I would have so much in common and that she would become such a big part of my life. If I don’t see Prudence one week, I genuinely miss her.
We have such a laugh especially when we compare our dinners of the week; mine being vegan and Prudence’s being meat heavy.
Our visits are always fun, we have painted nails -they looked great in red- and it was great to get out to the Picnic in the Park but one of my favourite visits was bringing my Mum to meet Prudence, they have both heard so much about the other, it was so nice them having the opportunity to meet each other. We chatted while having ice-creams in the sun -it was so lovely!
I tell my friends about our friendship as I think it’s a really amazing opportunity to connect with someone I wouldn’t ordinarily meet. I am so thankful for Prudence and our friendship and I am really looking forward to getting to know each other more over the coming months.”
