From 2017 to 2023, Manchester Cares connected older and younger neighbours to reduce loneliness and bridge intergenerational polarisation
The impact we madeWe celebrated our fifth birthday party in November and it was a biggest Social Club yet!
This month Manchester Cares is celebrating our 4th birthday and we are also celebrating making our 100th Love Your Neighbour introduction. From our first introduction back in 2018 in Moston to our newest in Withington, through Love Your Neighbour, older and younger neighbours have collectively shared over 3000 visits and over 124 days of interaction across our wonderful city and we certainly think that is something to celebrate.
Over the summer, we adapted our Social Clubs programme, so we could pilot Learning Month – a way for us to understand the impact of the programme and how to improve by collecting stories and feedback from neighbours through fun, guided activities.
Our Desert Island Discs club has been running for 5 years this February. Find out why our community love it so much...
Our younger neighbours bring so much to our community network, so in this month's blog we shine a spotlight on some star volunteers from across our programmes. We chatted to Matt (32), Jaimie (28) and Jenny (36) about what getting involved in Social Clubs, Love Your Neighbour and Fundraising means to them, and why they’d recommend volunteering with Manchester Cares to their friends.
Neighbours have been getting together at our monthly Tech Club to get more familiar with their electronic devices, and ask those burning technology questions. From sending an email, to using Duolingo, neighbours have learnt all sorts, as well as having the chance to get to know eachother better.
