The seasons are changing, and so is our approach to outreach.
Lockdown may have caused distance in many ways, however the blossoming friendship between Liverpool and Manchester neighbours has gone from strength to strength.
During the coldest months of the year, between October and March, Manchester Cares launched its third Winter Wellbeing project. From Whalley Range, Rusholme and Withington, to Ancoats, Miles Platting and Beswick, and everywhere in between, we have connected – through proactive outreach – with older neighbours who are most at risk of being left behind as the days get shorter and nights get colder.
This month is action-packed with even more Virtual Social Clubs to sign up to for June and a whole host of craftiness with our June Activity Pack to get your creative juices flowing.
See what's in store this month in our #AloneTogether activity pack. Join older and younger neighbours with these daily activities that you can do in your home. Even though we may be physically apart, this is just one way in which we are staying connected.
Introducing Laura, our new Head of Programmes
We're proud to share how we've re-invented our programmes for these extraordinary times – always maintaining connection, community and our values (kindness, community, trust, bravery, learning) at their heart.
Thank you to everyone who makes our work possible – from funders, to local businesses, to partners in the proud local voluntary sector and, most importantly, the older and younger neighbours who share time every day through Manchester Cares. We're so grateful for your support, especially at this disconnecting time.
Over the last two weeks we've been shopping for food and delivering it to older neighbours who are self-isolating and needed a little bit of help. Included are some tips for how you can support your own neighbours and relatives.
