We offered older and younger neighbours the chance to celebrate their friendships this Valentine’s - or should we say Palentine’s - Week in the best way we know how - over a chippy tea from their local chip shop.
Roy (80) and Kate (37) were first introduced through our Love Your Neighbour programme back in February 2020. With a mutual love of culture and literature the new pals instantly hit it off, and since then they have shared nearly 80 calls and visits and developed a really special friendship along the way.
Trish (30) and Anne (71) have become firm friends since they first met at a Manchester Cares Pub Quiz back in early 2020. As the year comes to a close, we reflect on what their friendship means to them, and what they've learnt from each other.
This month Manchester Cares is celebrating our 4th birthday and we are also celebrating making our 100th Love Your Neighbour introduction. From our first introduction back in 2018 in Moston to our newest in Withington, through Love Your Neighbour, older and younger neighbours have collectively shared over 3000 visits and over 124 days of interaction across our wonderful city and we certainly think that is something to celebrate.
Manchester Cares are taking part in a match funding campaign from 30th November to 7th December to keep our community connected, and we need your help!
We invited avid Manchester United fans Marie (80) and Eleanor (26) to watch their beloved team play Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Marie and Eleanor met for the first time on match day, and were soon to find they had a lot in common.
Cindy (36) and William (71), were introduced through our Love Your Neighbour programme in spring this year. The pals exchanged over 30 calls before finally getting to meet face to face. Six months into their friendship we caught up with them to find out what's so special about their friendship.
Our younger neighbours bring so much to our community network, so in this month's blog we shine a spotlight on some star volunteers from across our programmes. We chatted to Matt (32), Jaimie (28) and Jenny (36) about what getting involved in Social Clubs, Love Your Neighbour and Fundraising means to them, and why they’d recommend volunteering with Manchester Cares to their friends.
Over the past month, we have slowly and safely been transitioning back to face-to-face programmes, here we share some of our favourite stories and how we are ensuring safety is our number one priority.
